Guwahati: A large section of Guwahati faced an abrupt water supply disruption on Thursday after a major leakage was detected in the main transmission pipeline at Piyoli Phukan Nagar. The Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) promptly issued a public notice informing residents about the issue and confirming that repair work is currently underway.

According to the GJB, the disruption has affected areas under the Ramsahill reservoir, including Zoo Road, Anil Nagar, Nabin Nagar, Shreenagar, Tarun Nagar, Ambikagiri Nagar, Narikal Bari, Geetanagar, Hengrabari, Borbari, Dwarka Nagar, Mathura Nagar, Chachal, Sarumotoria, and parts of Dr Zakir Hussain Road and Dilip Huzuri Path.

Officials from the Jal Board attributed the problem to a leakage in the transmission main that required immediate technical intervention. “Our team is working on priority to resolve the issue. The water supply is expected to resume by Friday, subject to the completion of repairs,” a GJB spokesperson stated.

Residents in the affected localities have been advised to arrange alternative sources of water in the meantime. The Board expressed regret for the inconvenience caused and appealed for public cooperation as they expedite the restoration process.
