GUWAHATI: A joint operation by Geetanagar Police Station and Chandmari Police Station, supervised by ACP Chandmari Division, led to the arrest of 35-year-old Saddam Hussain aka Kaasa. He is a resident of Bhaskarnagar, Grill Masjid Bye-Lane in Guwahati's Chandmari area.
During the search of his room, police recovered 100 vials containing suspected heroin weighing 135.65 grams, 63 empty vials, and a mobile phone. The contraband was hidden in a black polythene bag under his bed. The accused has been taken into custody for further investigation.
Meanwhile, in a major crackdown against drug trafficking on Wednesday, Golaghat Police conducted an anti-drug operation under Dergaon Police Station following a tip-off. During the raid, officials seized 74.79 grams of heroin hidden in a haystack, along with Rs. 65,330 in cash, suspected to be proceeds from drug dealings.
One drug peddler was arrested, and the police also seized a vehicle and multiple mobile handsets from the accused. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and investigations are ongoing to trace the supply chain and other individuals involved.
Earlier this week, a team led by SI (UB) Sagar Sah intercepted and searched an e-rickshaw in Bongaigaon, recovering seven vials of a substance suspected to be heroin, weighing 9.33 grams. The driver, Rakesh Hussain from Kali Mandir, Bongaigaon, was apprehended, and legal action was initiated.
