GUWAHATI: Residents of Pandu Station Colony were left wading through water on Thursday after a faulty water supply project caused severe flooding in the area. The issue stems from a substandard installation of the West Guwahati Water Supply Project (WSP), originally undertaken by Gammon.
A source from the Guwahati Jal Board (GJB) confirmed that a fault in the water supply network was responsible for the uncontrolled water flow. “A plate within the network opened up, causing a significant spill. The issue will be rectified today,” the source assured. However, local residents claim that the problem has been persisting for several days. “The issue started two days ago, but now the situation has become unbearable,” one resident shared.
While the GJB has promised swift action, the recurring failures in Guwahati’s water supply infrastructure have raised concerns about the quality of execution and ongoing maintenance. Despite the assurances, locals remain skeptical about whether the necessary steps will be taken to prevent future incidents. For now, the residents of Pandu Colony are left to deal with an unwelcome and uncontrollable “supply” of water.
