Guwahati: The Guwahati police has launched two successful operations resulting in the arrest of multiple accused involved in theft and snatching cases across the city.
In the first case, a team from Gorchuk Police Station arrested four individuals as part of a probe into a major theft case. The accused have been identified as Ananda Barma (45) of Ulubari, Kartick Sharma (21) from Kumarpara, Madhab Das (30) of Bijaynagar in Palasbari, and Jakir Hussain (29) from Katahbari/Barpeta. During the operation, the police recovered two pairs of gold-like bangles and a large sum of stolen foreign currency. Legal proceedings have been initiated and further investigation is currently underway.
In a separate operation, a team from Fatasil Ambari Police Station busted a mobile snatching gang linked to a recent scooter theft at Barshapara. Two prime accused, Raju Ali alias Arju (20) and Sanju Ali (19), were initially arrested while using the stolen scooter (AS01DF1701) for committing mobile snatching.
Based on leads from the initial arrests, three more associates, Rubul Ali (19), Raju Mallik (21), and Surajit Choudhary (20), were also nabbed. Additionally, police arrested Saijuddin Ali (21), who received the stolen items, along with two resellers, Saah Alam (22) and Asraf Ali (22). The operation led to the recovery of one stolen scooty and twelve stolen mobile phones from brands including Oppo, Redmi, Realme, Vivo, Samsung, iQOO, and Infinix. Legal action has been initiated in this case as well.
