Guwahati: Thieves arrested; stolen items recovered in city

Guwahati: In a series of successful operations, city police have cracked multiple theft cases, arresting several individuals and recovering stolen items including mobile phones and a vehicle.

Acting on a complaint, a CGPD team from Noonmati Police Station apprehended Subham Mahato (29) and a minor, both hailing from Jharkhand, from Kolongpar Bazar in Narengi. Two stolen mobile phones were recovered from their possession. The duo had reportedly been camping near Rangia railway station and confessed to targeting crowded markets in Guwahati for pickpocketing. Legal proceedings have been initiated.

In a separate case, an EGPD team from Dispur Police Station recovered a stolen Mahindra Thar (AS01FQ0969) from Manipur. The vehicle was initially taken from the victim at Ghoramara under the pretext of a self-drive agreement and was later reported missing. Three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case: Akoijam Universe (27) of Imphal East, Achom Winner Meitei (26), and Thomnojam Samananda, both from Imphal West. Necessary legal action is underway.

Additionally, another EGPD team from Dispur PS apprehended a minor from Lichubagan in Hengerabari, who was found in possession of a stolen mobile phone. Legal follow-up has been initiated.

In another operation, a WGPD team from Jalukbari Outpost arrested Rajib Ali (25) of Notbama from under the Jalukbari Flyover. Two stolen mobile phones were recovered from him. During interrogation, Ali admitted to stealing a motorcycle and a scooty from Hatigaon and Dispur areas. Further legal proceedings are in progress.
