GUWAHATI: In a shocking incident near Banaphul Nagar, a woman sustained severe injuries during a bag-snatching incident at around 8:30 p.m.
Riju Sharma was attacked by thieves soon after withdrawing money from an ATM. They grabbed her bag, which had Rs. 10,000 in cash, a mobile phone, medicines, ATM cards, and other personal items.
Eyewitnesses stated that the attackers acted swiftly, yanking the bag from Sharma’s hands. In the struggle, Sharma was thrown to the ground and left lying in the middle of the road with serious injuries, particularly to her hand.
Riju Sharma was rushed to Pratiksha Hospital, where she was admitted overnight. The doctors said she needs surgery for the injuries from the attack.
The local police are investigating the incident and asking people to stay alert and report anything suspicious. The thieves are yet to be identified, and authorities are working to catch them.
Meanwhile, earlier last year, a woman named Kanchan Sinha allegedly became a victim of a chain-snatching incident in the Sundarpur area of Guwahati.
Two men on a motorcycle attempted to snatch her chain. When they failed, they turned violent and attacked her with a sharp object, possibly a knife, injuring her severely on her right hand.
Fortunately, some compassionate locals came to Kanchan's help, quickly took her to a nearby private hospital for treatment, but the attackers fled the scene before anyone could intervene.
