GUWAHATI: On the last day of 2024, thousands of worshippers gathered at the holy Maa Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati in order to ask for blessings and welcome the new year with hope, prosperity, and success.
The ancient temple, which is perched atop the Nilachal Hills, witnessed thousands of worshippers who braved the city's engulfing fog and bitter cold to offer prayers.
For many years, the holy location, which is devoted to Goddess Kamakhya, has served as a haven for people looking for comfort and heavenly favours.
Despite the cold winter wave that was sweeping Assam, devotees from all walks of life, including families, pilgrims, and locals, lined up before dawn on this particular day, adding to the temple's significance.
A devotee from a neighboring district shared that visiting the temple on December 31 is an annual tradition to show gratitude for the past year and seek blessings for the year ahead. The devotee described the temple as a source of peace and optimism, providing a sense of hope for the future.
To handle the enormous influx of worshippers, the temple's administration and authorities made a lot of preparations. While security guards kept the temple grounds and surrounding area in order, volunteers made sure that worshippers were coming in steady numbers.
In addition to exchanging well wishes and sharing offerings of fruits and sweets, devotees also took pictures to commemorate the historic event. A lot of people commented on the calm but lively ambiance that signalled the end of one year and the start of another.
