Guwahati: A tragic human-wildlife conflict claimed a life near Rani’s Pitbari area in the early hours of Friday, when a wild elephant attacked and killed a 45-year-old man.
The victim, Baida Boro, a resident of Puranbari in Rani, had ventured into the nearby forest to cut straw when the elephant attacked him. The injuries proved fatal, and Boro succumbed at the scene.
Officials from the Rani Police and Forest Department rushed to the site following the incident. The body was later sent to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for a post-mortem examination.
Baida Boro is survived by his wife and two children. The incident highlights the increasing tension between human habitation and wildlife in the region, often exacerbated by deforestation and encroachment.
Local authorities have urged residents to exercise caution in forested areas, especially during early morning and late evening hours when wild elephants are known to roam.
