GUWAHATI: A general meeting was held at the office of the vice-chancellor, Gauhati University, to discuss the publication of a commemorative souvenir marking the 100th birth anniversary of Golap Borbora, the first non-Congress chief minister of Assam and a prominent figure in the state’s socio-political history.
The meeting was graced by several distinguished personalities, including Dr Nani Gopal Mahanta, Vice Chancellor of Gauhati University; Kuntal MoniSarmah Bordoloi, IAS officer on Special Duty to the Chief Minister of Assam; Dr Arupjyoti Choudhury, Vice Chancellor of Madhavdev University; Padma Shri awardee and social worker Ajoy Kumar Dutta; eminent author Dr Ranjit Sabhapandit; Shri Pankaj Borbora, son of the late Golap Borbora; and Abhinav P. Borbora, grandson of the late Golap Borbora.
As part of the proceedings, Dr Nani Gopal Mahanta, Arupjyoti Choudhury and Kuntal Moni Sarmah Bordoloi were unanimously elected as editors of the proposed souvenir. The editorial body aims to create a rich and insightful publication that will include personal letters, interviews, diary entries, and rare photographs of Golap Borbora, offering a detailed archive of his life, ideology, and contributions. The initiative reflects a collective effort to preserve and honour the enduring legacy of a leader who played a pivotal role in shaping modern Assam.
