Guwahati: Congress Rajya Sabha MP and senior AICC leader Neeraj Dangi said, “The National Herald case is actually a conspiracy by the BJP. The aim is to distract the public from important issues, cover up the government’s failures, and distort the legacy of the freedom movement.” Addressing the media at Rajiv Bhawan on Monday, he strongly criticized BJP and the Enforcement Director (ED)’s actions.

Dangi asserted that the case was a clear example of political vendetta and a targeted attack on Congress leadership. He claimed that the recent revival of the ED’s actions came right after Rahul Gandhi took a strong stand against the BJP at the historic Congress session in Gujarat. “The ED has now become an election office for the BJP. The agency is being used as a tool of oppression against the opposition,” Dangi alleged.

He further added that the chargesheet filed against Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is politically motivated and baseless. “Allegations of financial misappropriation have been made in a case where not a single rupee was exchanged. In fact, the company was being revived by converting a loan into equity,” he said.

Dangi accused the government of launching selective and biased investigations to target political opponents, calling it “a form of political hooliganism.” He highlighted that the conviction rate in ED cases stands at just 1%, with 98% of the politically-sensitive cases being filed against opposition leaders. “BJP is targeting the Congress leadership in an attempt to destroy the entire opposition,” he added.

Neeraj Dangi also shed light on the historical background of National Herald, stating that it was founded in 1937 under the leadership of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru as a voice of the freedom movement. The paper was so influential that it was banned by the British during the Quit India Movement of 1942.
