GUWAHATI: Jagannath Thakur Smriti Nyas (Jagannath Thakur Memorial Trust) has instituted a literary award titled Jagannath Thakur Sahitya Bota to be given to a short-story writer in the Assamese language every year, beginning 2021.

The inaugural award which will carry a citation and a trophy besides an amount of Rs. 50,000 will be presented at a function to be held on November 8 this year.

"The recipient will be selected by a committee of the Trust members. The selection committee will consider the works (collection of short stories) of the applicants published during the current year and the two preceding years – i.e., for the award for 2021, works published during 2021, 2020 and 2019 will be considered. In special cases, the trust can also award a short story writer on the basis of his or her overall contribution to the short-story genre," said Trust general secretary Dr. Prapti Thakur in a statement.
