Guwahati: In a shocking incident, a decomposed body of a government employee was found in a government quarters in Guwahati’s Hengrabari area on Friday. The deceased has been identified as Dwijen Das, an Upper Division Clerk (UDC) in the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED). Das, a resident of Bihdia in Kamrup district, had been living alone in that quarters for the past four months. Concerned neighbours alerted the police after not seeing him for two days. Upon investigation, authorities discovered his highly decomposed body in the attic of the residence.
Sources revealed that Rs 22,570 in cash was recovered near the body, raising suspicions about the circumstances leading to his death. Preliminary enquiries indicate that Das was estranged from his wife and daughter, who currently reside in Bamunimaidam, due to ongoing divorce proceedings. While no evidence of foul play has been confirmed so far, the police are exploring all possible angles, including personal and financial disputes. The body has been sent for post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
