The state administration of Manipur has come up with the plan to provide international flights from Imphal to Mandalay in Myanmar and Bangkok in Thailand under UDAAN scheme.

IMPHAL : Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced that, the state administration in Imphal is planning to start international flights from Imphal in Manipur   to Mandalay in Myanmar and Bangkok in Thailand. These flights will be introduced under the UDAAN scheme. 

While attending the inauguration of the One-Day International Business Summit of Gateway Manipur-Connecting ASEAN countries, in Sangai Hall, the CM mentioned that the Imphal International Airport is considered as the third busiest airport in the entire Northeast region. The summit was organised by Manipur Chamber of Commerce and Industry. 

He believes that better connectivity would have useful impact on areas such as tourism, healthcare, logistics, IT, education and many more. Apart from this, Manipur is working on various developmental projects like the Air Cargo terminal which will comprise Manipur's air connectivity infrastructure in the future. Upgrading the National highway to Moreh , Trilateral Highway Project, Kaladan Multi-Modal Transit Transport project and a few more connectivity project will facilitate in the overall upgradation of Manipur and the northeastern region.

CM Biren is of the view that the northeast region links India with the most economically spirited and politically important structure of the world. He also believes that Manipur will hugely contribute in the East Act Policy touted by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Development and improvement in connectivity is the most important factor to unlock massive business opportunities in the region.

This will eventually help to achieve the vision of a free and open Indo- Pacific region. N. Biren talked about the rail network which has reached Manipur and the ongoing discussion of extending the rail line beyond Imphal. In the inauguration, CM Biren emphasised on the massive tourism potential and possibility in Manipur.

He continued by mentioning about the state's historical association with World War II and stressed on the fact that Imphal's battle was the watershed moment.
