East Khasi Hills: Several more houses declared as Containment Areas; Check details here

Guwahati: Amid the continuing spike in the number of COVID-19 cases in Meghalaya, War Nongbri, the Deputy Commissioner of the East Khasi Hills district, has issued containment orders for several areas to arrest the spread of the dreaded contagion.

In orders issued on September 1, 2020, Nongbri has declared the first floor of the building of Shanta Uriah at Streamlet Road, Laban, the house and compound of B. Nongrum at Lumdiengsoh (Motinagar), the house of Ashish Dhar at Upper Jail Road (next to Gini's complex) and the compound of Swapan Deb and Ruma Deb at Upper Jail Road (near Puja Mandap) as containment areas so as to restrict unregulated entry and exit.

The orders state that no person or public shall be allowed to move into the containment areas and inhabitants within the containment areas shall not move out and shall strictly remain inside their home.

Gatherings, events, functions whatsoever of any nature and forms including social, political, religious, economic activities shall not be allowed.

All shopping establishments shall be closed immediately and supply of essential and medical requirements for purchase will be ensured through various teams formed by the District Administration.

All Government and private institutions located within the boundary of the containment areas are to close forthwith, till further orders.

The orders, however, will not apply to health workers and essential workers of the Shillong Municipal Board, press including electronic and print media, petrol pumps, and LPG delivery workforce, Nongbri wrote.

Any violation of the order will entail prosecution under the penal provision of the Disaster Management Act, 2005, and IPC, the order added.

Meanwhile, the administration has lifted the containment orders for B. Dohling compound at Mawkhar Main Road, the house of B. Dkhar at Amjad Ali Road, Laban, the house of Sushma Talukdar, Burnside area, near Sankardev College Girls Hostel at Rilbong, and the Mantra building opposite the Puja Mandap at Rilbong with immediate effect.
