GUWAHATI: Kamrup Metro is witnessing a surge in COVID cases in recent days.

After the number of cases was declining in the district, the Health Department had relaxed certain COVID restrictions. However, the number of COVID positive cases has again crossed the 200-mark. The last time the district registered over 200 cases was on June 18 with 204 cases. A Kamrup Metro NHM Official said that out of the 9,877 samples collected on July 6, as many as 203 were positive.

Till July 6, Kamrup Metro had 1,616 active cases out of which 1,028 patients were admitted in hospitals and 588 were under home isolation.

According to the NHM official, from June 27 to July 6, a total of 1,669 positive cases were detected. Only two districts of the State — Sonitpur (1,787 cases) and Golaghat (2,715 cases) registered more cases than Kamrup Metro during the period.

Meanwhile, due to the surging cases, Dimoria Block under Kamrup district might soon be declared as a containment zone, the official underlined.

Recently, Health and Family Welfare Minister Keshab Mahanta said that he will hold discussions with the Kamrup Metro Deputy Commissioner to assess the reason for the surging cases.
