GUWAHATI: The Axam Xahitya Xabha (AXX) opposed the GMDA (Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority) digging a pond at the 50-bigha plot at Chachal which the premier literary body got from erstwhile State Government led by Hiteswar Saikia.
Talking to the media, AXX's Dr Bhupen Hazarika Cultural University Project's convener Pabitra Kumar Sarma said, "Following a request from the AXX, the State Government under the then Chief Minister gave a 50-bigha plot at Chachal (Daag No 620) in 1993. The AXX then started Dr Bhupen Hazarika Cultural University at the plot. The Xabha then started the construction of two concrete structures - a two-room house and a building at the site. Though it completed the two-room house, it could not erect the building. The Xabha let one of its employees use the two-room house as quarters. The complex also had some movable properties of the Xabha. The AXX was to hold some of its programmes at this complex in 2014 at its special annual session but could not as the administration did not allow that. The AXX had to hold the entire session at Khanapara Veterinary Field."
Sarma said, "Now the administration is out to grab the plot. GMDA has started digging the plot without holding any discussion with us. The GMDA is also filling up the plot. We got hurt by the move of the administration. We want the plot given to us. If not, the AXX and the people will take to agitations."
