GUWAHATI: Guwahati police arrested the driver of a city-based doctor for allegedly kidnapping his 10-year-old daughter while taking her to tuition on Thursday.

The accused driver, identified as Narahari Barman, also demanded a ransom of Rs 7 lakh to release the girl.

Narahari Barman hailed from Barpeta and was working as a driver for Doctor Buddhaditya Bhattacharya.

According to the police, Narahari came out of the house, along with the child to take her to tuition at around 7.30 pm. However, his evil intentions clearly indicated that he was hatching a plot to kidnap the child.

Narahari then called the child's mother and demanded Rs 7 lakh.

Meanwhile, the police swung into action and traced the driver behind a Ganesh temple in the Khanapara area and rescued the minor girl.
