Obscurity Shrouds Arrest Of Victor Das

GUWAHATI: Obscurity shrouds the arrest of Victor Das, who has alleged a 'backdoor appointment' racket for grade III and IV posts becoming active in the state. While Victor Das claimed to have given the evidence to the police, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that Das failed to give the police any concrete evidence backing his allegation. "He has misled the society," the DGP said.

When the police were producing Victor Das to the court, he told reporters that he had given all evidence, including call recordings regarding the 'backdoor appointment racket', to the police.

Victor's mother went to Pan Bazar Police Station, where he told the media that "the police treat my son as though he is a criminal. My son has not uttered anything against the government. What he said is against the brokers. My son never told it with evidence, and he has given the evidence to the police. Even his students have come to this police station and given their statements. Why are the police treating him like a criminal?"

Talking to the media, the DGP said, "We gave enough chances to Victor Das to give us the evidence he has regarding the 'appointment racket'. However, he has not given us anything concrete. He has misled society. I believe that the recent Grade III and IV recruitment examinations were neat and clean."

Addressing the media, Joint Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, Partha Sarathi Mahanta, said, "We registered a case (233/2022) against Victor Das at Pan Bazar Police Station. The examination was neat and clean. We have cross-verified everything he said by taking him to the sites. We found nothing he had alleged. He has misled society. And hence, we have filed a case against him."
