GUWAHATI: AJP (Assam Jatiya Parishad) president Lurinjyoti Gogoi has said that the people of the State have been facing a tough time due to hike in prices of all essential commodities, besides that of fuel and construction materials.

Addressing the media here on Thursday, Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, "Even though the BJP government is vocal on sabka saath, sabka vikash at meetings and in writings, the skyrocketing prices of all commodities have exposed its anti-people stance. This is glaringly visible now that the corporate-friendly BJP government has no concern for the commoners. Or else, it would have taken some measures to bail out the common people from the wreath of high prices."

Showing a price list, the AJP president said, "Now rice is sold at Rs 45 per kg against Rs 25 in April, 2016. The percentage of rise in price is 80. At present per kg of pulses (dal) is Rs 88 against Rs 45 in April 2016, and the rise is 95.56 per cent. Mustard oil is sold at Rs 160 per litre now against Rs 90 in April 2016, and the rise is 77.78 per cent. Onion is sold at Rs 40 per kg now against Rs 20 in April 2016. The rise in price is 100 per cent. Potato is sold at Rs 32 per kg now against Rs 22 in April 2016, and the rise in price is 45.45 per cent.

"Likewise, the rate of power rental now is Rs 6.35 per unit against 4.95 in April 2016, and the rise is 28.28 per cent. Sand per cubic metre is sold at Rs 1,200 now against Rs 700 in April 2016, and the percentage of rise is 71.42. Cement is sold at Rs 400 per bag now against Rs 300 in April 2016, registering a rise of 33.33 per cent. Rod per tonne is sold at Rs 50,000 against Rs 25,500 in April 2016. The rise is 96.08 per cent."

Challenging the ruling coalition in the State, Lurinjyoti Gogoi said, "We're hopeful that the people of the State will give a befitting reply to the BJP in this Assembly election."

Meanwhile, the Kamrup (M) district unit of the AJP took out a procession from Lachitghat at Machkhowa to the office of the Deputy Commissioner against the exorbitant rise in prices of all essential commodities."
