GUWAHATI: The State Secondary Education Department has issued the procedure to conduct the internal and terminal examinations for both classes IX and X as per the schedule of the academic calendar circulated by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA).

There are four types of examinations in a calendar year at the school level — Unit Test (1), Half Yearly Exam, Unit Test (2) and Annual Exam for class IX / Pre-Board Exam for class X.

The District Examination Committee (DEC) shall formulate a uniform policy for holding internal examinations of all categories of schools in the district. The examination shall be held on the same day for all schools with common question papers, and the committee will prepare the question papers of their district centrally.

In case of difficulty in holding the examination offline due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the school authorities must conduct all the internal examinations through digital mode or any other suitable method as applicable.

Setting of question papers

Keeping in view, the sanctity and integrity of the examinations, a separate confidential committee shall be constituted by the DLIEC for the setting of question papers.

For unit tests, the DEC will prepare the model manuscript only and the schools will do the needful including printing of question papers etc. for this work. For half-yearly, annual and pre-board examinations, the confidential committee will prepare and print question papers for all the schools as per requirement.

Evaluation of answer scripts

The school will have to evaluate the answer scripts of unit tests.

The DEC shall make an evaluation system for evaluation of answer scripts of half-yearly, annual examination of Class IX and pre-board examination of class X, with four schools as a group.

It is to be noted that the answer scripts of School A shall be evaluated by the teachers of School B; answer scripts of School B shall be evaluated by the teachers of School C; Answer scripts of School C shall be evaluated by the teachers of School D and Answer scripts of School D shall be evaluated by the teachers of School A.

The nearby four schools will be grouped by the committee. The school shall not have any option for entry or exit from the group.

Online procedure for entry of marks

The SEBA will open a separate portal for the entry of marks for each of the Internal examinations. Regarding entry of marks into the online portal, SOP will be issued by SEBA in due course of time. The SEBA will be the controlling authority of the Results of Internal examinations for both Classes IX and X.

After uploading of marks into the SEBA portal by all the schools, District Examination Committee shall declare the results of the examination through the concerned school and the committee shall have the discretion to detain students having poor performance.

Penal provisions

For maintaining a uniform standard of Internal Examination, all schools must conduct the Internal Examination under the supervision and control of the SEBA and the DLIEC. In case of failure on the part of a school to comply with the above provisions, the Education Department, Government of Assam and the Board of Secondary Education, Assam may initiate action including cancellation of affiliation, pay cut etc. as the case may be.
