Porn Addiction Rises Amid Work From Home: Report

New Delhi: Work from Home (WFH) allowed people across the world to easily carry on their work during the COVID-19 pandemic and the same work culture now companies want to continue in the future also. But a different problem is surfacing now called 'porn addiction.

As per a Daily Mail report, the number of people in the UK seeking medical help related to porn addiction has nearly doubled during the pandemic. This was the time when most people were working from their homes.

As per experts, many people who occasionally watch porn have now become addicted.

The Laurel Center in London is the UK's largest sex and porn addiction clinic. Here some people doing work from home are being treated who watch porn for 14-14 hours a day.

"Work from home has allowed people to spend more time with themselves. They would never have been so alone with their computers before today which gives one enough time to watch porn. No one needs to wait to go home to watch porn,'' said Dr Paula Hall, Director of the Laurel Center.

The report further said that in the first six months of 2022, there were approximately 750 porn addicts at the Laurel Center. At the same time, in 2019 this number was 950 for the whole year.

Dr. Paula further said that the patients coming this year need more intensive treatment than older patients.

According to the report of the Daily Mail, due to the stress of lockdown and pandemic, people's mental health has deteriorated and people are visiting porn websites in such a situation.

Hall also noted that patients coming to the clinic this year "need more intensive treatment".

The report further said that physicians in London clinics now spend around 600 hours a month helping people with porn addiction, compared to just 360 hours per month in 2019.
