GUWAHATI: As Hockey India invited express of interest from its state units to host the different national championships which will be held next year, Hockey India treasurer Tapan Das feels if Senior Men's National Hockey championship will not be held this year in Guwahati it would unlikely to be held in next year too due to the Assembly election in the State.

Talking to The Sentinel Das, who is also the secretary of the Assam Hockey, said, "2021 is election year for Assam. So it would be difficult for us to host any National Meet before the election."

Commenting on the present hockey scenario of India he said, "Covid-19 brought a lot of uncertainties on the national championships which are scheduled to be held this year. The sufferer list includes all the National Sports Bodies including Hockey India. We have already postponed many National Tournaments including the Senior Men's National Hockey Championship which was supposed to be held in Guwahati in June. As it is not sure when the situation would turn normal so it is impossible to say right now about the future of Hockey India's domestic circuit this season."

It may be mentioned here that COVID-19 already made a huge impact in the sports sector in India and several National Championships were postponed. The National Sports Bodies are still in doubt about the future of the different National Meets which is scheduled to be held this year. Keeping it in mind Hockey India perhaps too shifted its focus to the next season.
