NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Education has initiated discussions with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) regarding the implementation of two board examinations per academic year, beginning in the next session.
Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the meeting on social media, indicating that the proposed scheme will soon be open for public consultation by the CBSE. This initiative aims to create a more stress-free learning environment for students.
Besides the changes in board exams, the ministry has ordered the introduction of a Global Curriculum for Foreign Schools, which is to be introduced in the academic year 2026-27. In a high-level meeting presided over by Pradhan, the top officials including the Secretary of DoSEL, Secretary of ER, and heads of CBSE, NCERT, KVS, and NVS, along with global school representatives, discussed the modalities for developing and implementing this curriculum.
Presently, board exams for Class 10 and 12 are conducted in February and March. The CBSE is mulling over various alternatives for the new examination schedule, such as a semester system with the first exam in January-February and the second one in March-April, or conducting the second exam in June along with supplementary or improvement exams.
The two-year exam pattern was earlier taken on a temporary basis during the COVID-19 crisis but switched to the conventional end-of-year pattern the next year. The forthcoming changes are anticipated to improve the educational system and promote student wellbeing.
