New Delhi: Demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Banerjee over the alleged gangrape incident in Kolkata, Union Minister Shantanu Thakur on Tuesday said that the law and order situation in West Bengal has completely collapsed, adding that the state police has become a “cadre” of the Trinamool Congress party.
Speaking to ANI, Union Minister Shantanu Thakur said, “West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee should resign from her post. They are just hungry for power.”
The Union Minister further claimed that as many as 60-70 cases of women’s sexual assault have been reported since the Trinamool Congress has been in power in the state.
“There is a collapse of law and order in West Bengal. The state police has become a cadre of TMC. There is a need for change in West Bengal, as women and sisters are not safe in the state. In the past 15 years, there have been 60-70 such incidents in the state, but the West Bengal CM says that it is a minor incident,” he said.
A female student inside South Calcutta Law College on June 25 was allegedly gangraped. Earlier today, the father of one of the accused in the alleged gangrape case at a law college in Kolkata has expressed faith in the judiciary, saying that the court will decide the further course of action.
“The matter is subjudice and investigation is underway. I have been saying from the beginning that I have faith in the judiciary. The court will decide the further course of action,” the man told ANI.
The main accused in the case, Manojit Mishra, has been taken into custody along with three others. The SIT continues to probe the matter. (ANI)
