RANCHI: A 25-year-old man was arrested in Jharkhand’s Khunti district for allegedly murdering his live-in partner and dismembering her body into 50 pieces following a dispute over his marriage to another woman.

The heinous crime, which occurred two weeks ago, came to light when a stray dog discovered human remains in a forested area near Jordag village on November 24.

The accused individual has been identified as Naresh Bhengra while the victim went by the name of Gangi Kumari. They were residents of Jordag village but had been living and working in Tamil Nadu.

As per the police, the couple had been in a live-in relationship for the past few years. Naresh married another woman in Khunti without the victim’s knowledge. He returned to Tamil Nadu and continued staying together with Gangi.

The gruesome incident took place on November 8 when the couple returned to Khunti at Gangi’s insistence. A clash unfolded between the two when she insisted that he take her to the village and demanded the repayment of the money he owed her if he declined.

Subsequently, Bhengra took her to a wooded area near his home and strangled Gangi with her scarf. He then proceeded to chop the body into approximately 50 pieces and dispose of the remains, leaving them for the wild animals to consume.

On November 24, the victim's remains were discovered in a forest after a dog was seen with body parts, according to a police official. A bag containing Gangi's belongings, including her Aadhaar card, was also found. Additionally, a blood-stained sickle and garden hoe were recovered. Bhengra confessed to the murder during interrogation and was subsequently arrested.
