Kozhencherry: Senior Congress leader and MP Shashi Tharoor on Wednesday said a "strong wave" is building in favour of the United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala as the Assembly elections approach. Speaking during a roadshow in Ranni constituency for UDF candidate Pazhakulam Madhu, Tharoor said he has been campaigning across the state since March 20 and has sensed growing support among voters.

"I'm seeing a real wave in favour of the UDF. The momentum is with us," he said, adding that he has campaigned for 36 candidates so far. While acknowledging that not all may win, he said they are making a significant impact on the electorate.

Tharoor highlighted youth migration as a major concern in Kerala, noting that many young people are leaving the state and country in search of better opportunities. He stressed that a UDF government would focus on development that creates jobs within the state and ensures a better future for the younger generation.

He said the alliance aims to generate employment and improve living standards, pointing to the five-point guarantee announced by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi as a roadmap for transformative change.

Backing Gandhi's remarks on state politics, Tharoor alleged that rival parties may be benefiting from a division of the anti-incumbency vote, suggesting possible tacit understanding driven by electoral calculations.

Expressing optimism about Gandhi's campaign, Tharoor said people are looking for new leadership and a fresh vision, claiming there is widespread dissatisfaction over governance in the past decade. The Ranni constituency is witnessing a closely watched contest, with the UDF hoping to convert the perceived momentum into electoral gains. (IANS)
