3-year-old tests positive for coronavirus in Kerala; the state has been put on high alert

KERALA: A 3-year-old child has tested positive for coronavirus in Kerala. The child and the parents had travel history to Italy, claim reports. The thermal screening being carried out at the airport had detected the infection for the child which was confirmed after tests.

The child has been put under isolation at Ernakulam Medical College. The parents are also under observation, though the parents haven't shown any symptoms of fever, stated a press release.

The state’s health minister KK Shailaja also criticized the family that escaped from the airport without undergoing thermal screening. Later on the infection showed up in them as well as their two neighbours. "They were not ready to come to hospital. Our health authorities had to convince them and use force to bring them to hospital. Their tests were done and they turned out to be positive," she told media. "Their behaviour not to inform the government is a highly irresponsible. By not informing, they may transmit the disease to their friends and relatives."

Total coronavirus cases in India currently stand at 41.

India’s first coronavirus patient, a 24-year-old girl who contracted coronavirus after returning from Wuhan, was discharged from Thrissur Medical College Hopsital in February.

The patient has successfully managed to battle the condition which has left many people dead and infected in China. The student said that she had decided to leave China pose the outbreak and found a ticket to Kolkata.

With an increase in a load of screening samples from suspected coronavirus (COVID-19) cases with symptoms and travel history to affected countries, as many as 52 testing labs have been commissioned across India, including two in Delhi. The Indian Council of Medical Research — the apex body in India for the formulation, coordination and promotion of biomedical research — along with the Department of Health Research has commissioned these 52 laboratories.
