North-East India's Shiva Thapa and MC Mary Kom are among the seven Indian pugilists who have reached the finals of the Asian Boxing Championship 2021. 

The ASBC-sanctioned tournament, which is co-hosted by the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) and the UAE Boxing Federation, was originally set to take place in India but was rescheduled owing to an increase in COVID-19 cases. 

Six-time world champion veteran from the state of Manipur MC Mary will be eyeing her sixth gold medal in seven appearances when she takes on two-time world champion Kazakh boxer Nazym Kyzaibay on Sunday. She reached the finals after defeating Mongolia's Lutsaikhan Altantsetseg in the women's 51kg semi-final on Thursday.

Guwahati's Shiva Thapa, on the other hand, will face Mongolia's Baatarsukh Chinzorig, the Asian Games silver medalist. With a 4-0 victory over defending champion Bakhodur Usmonov of Tajikistan in the 64 kg final, Shiva Thapa advanced to the next round. He advances to the finals of this competition for the third time, continuing his outstanding success. 

Defending champion Amit Panghal will take on the Rio Olympics and world champion Zoirov Shakhobidin of Uzbekistan on Monday. 

Sanjeet too, on Monday, will compete against Vassiliy Levit, the silver medalist from the Rio Olympics. 

Pooja Rani, Anupama, and Lalbuatsahi will fight in their final bouts on Sunday. 

The Indian team has already recorded their best-ever performance by winning an astonishing 15 medals, surpassing their previous high of 13 medals (2 gold, 4 silver and 7 bronze). 

Simranjit Kaur (60kg), Vikas Krishan (69kg), Lovlina Borgohain (69kg), Jaismine (57kg), Sakshi Chaudhary (64kg), Monika (48kg), Saweety (81kg), and Varinder Singh (60kg) all earned bronze medals in the event's semifinals.
