Uttar Pradesh: 8-Month-Old Infant Dies as Mobile Phone Explodes

Lucknow: In a bizarre incident, an eight-month-old infant girl Neha was killed on Monday after she suffered burn injuries when the battery of a mobile phone next to her for charging exploded in UP's Bareilly district on Sunday night.

The parents of the deceased, Kusum Kashyap and Sunil Kumar Kashyap told media persons that the phone was purchased nearly six months ago but its battery was swollen for the past few weeks. They said the mobile was plugged into a switch connected to a solar panel.

The infant's father, Sunil Kumar, who works as a labourer, said that they had brought solar panels for lighting and charging mobile phones.

Talking about it, Sunil Kumar said, "My wife gave our daughter a bath and put her on the cot where the phone was lying. I asked her to put some clothes on the baby and shift her to another cot but she said that she would do it in a while."

After that, Sunil left the house and Kusum also forgot about the phone that was plugged in for charging. They rushed back to the house when they heard the noises and cries of the baby.

By then, the cot had caught fire and the baby was severely injured. The toddler was immediately rushed to the hospital where the doctors tried to save the baby girl but she died during the treatment.

So far, the parents have not filed any complaints against anyone. They have not sent the body for post-mortem either.

However, they said that action should be taken against the mobile company.
