Mizoram Polls: Zoram People’s Movement denies electoral alliance with BJP party

Aizawl: On Monday, the political affairs committee of Zoram People’s Movement held a press meet where they denied any talks of forming an alliance with the BJP party.

The statement was in response to 1, 00,000 pamphlet copies prepared by the MNF where they had stated that ZPM is in talks with the saffron party.

While there is a probability that ZNP and MPC which are now part of ZPM might have been on good terms with BJP previously, on May 2, 2018, the ZPM Steering Committee had passed a resolution not to work with the BJP said the party representatives. While it was given in the pamphlet that Lalduhoma is on talking terms with BJP after this resolution was passed, he has not communicated with them any further, they said.

It was also given in the pamphlet that ZPM has not named candidates for the constituencies such as Siaha, Lawngtlai West and East as they are dependent on BJP candidates, but the political affairs committee said this allegation is wrong as ZPM has fielded candidates in all these constituencies.

They also gave the reasons why candidates were not named in Palak constituency and Tuichawng constituency. While the reason given for the former constituency was the high number of foreigners in the area, the reason ZPM did not field a candidate in Tuichawng is to be in compliance with the appeal of the Mizoram NGO Co-ordination Committee, they said.

The NGO Co-ordination Committee had requested all parties not to field a Chakma candidate.
