M'laya Government issued strong directions to investigate attack on Social Activist Agnes Kharshiing

Shillong: Following the brutal and murderous attack upon the social right activist and CSWO President Agnes Kharshiing and her fellow activist Amita Sangma on Thursday afternoon, MDA Government strongly condemned the attack in Jaintia Hills today and also states that they have issued necessary directions to the police and district administration to investigate the matter and arrest those behind the attack.

The press statement from the office of the Chief Minister also mentioned that Civil Society plays an important role in a democratic system as they are instrumental in highlighting the concerns of the people.

“Violence in any form will not be tolerated and the government will take all necessary steps to ensure that those behind the attack are brought to justice,” the press statement claims further.

Also, Federation of 13 plus Workers Unions of Meghalaya condemned the attack on both the social activists in the state.

“Agnes Kharshiing is a person who fights for the poor and downtrodden people in the region. She has always fought against the illegal activities in the region in order to protect the environment and livelihood of workers like us. Hence, we urge the Meghalaya Government to ensure that the culprits get immediately booked,” said the members of Workers Unions.

Similarly, Ampareen Lyngdoh, Member, Meghalaya Legislative Assembly, Senior Congress leader and AICC Secretary condemned the brutal assault on women activist Agnes Kharshiing and Ms Sangma.

She in her press statement said such inhumane act will not be tolerated anymore. “This barbaric incident has left Meghalaya as a whole stunned. The circumstances under which this public assault occurred require immediate enquiry. I wish both the victims a speedy recovery and will join hands with all likeminded individuals in praying for them seeking divine intervention for them, their families and the medical hands attending on both the cases,” said Lyngdoh in the press statement.
