Late Dr. Ela Lodh from Tripura and Tage Rita Takhe from Arunachal Pradesh are listed among the 29 recipients of the Nari Shakti Puraskar Award for 2020 and 2021.

GUWAHATI: On the occasion of International Women's Day on Tuesday 8 March, India President Ram Nath Kovind announced the name of recipients for the Nari Shakti Puraskar Awards for 2020 and 2021 and 29 ladies area named for their contribution to women empowerment.

The recipients of the Nari Shakti Puraskar awards come from various fields such as social work, education, literature, art, science, technology, agriculture, navy, wildlife conservation, innovation and others.

Among the total 29 women named for the prestigious award for their outstanding contribution along with two ladies are from the northeastern states of India.

Notably, Late Dr. Ela Lodh from Tripura won the posthumous award of Nari Shakti Puraskar in the field of Obstetrician & Gynecologist. Tage Rita Takhe from Arunachal Pradesh won the coveted award in the category of an Entrepreneur.

Ela Lodh had served as a doctor, IGM, Medical supervisor and Administrator Director of Tripura Health Service during the period of 1980s and 1990s.

She has brought a massive change in the health sector of Tripura at a time when the health services in the state were underdeveloped in comparison to other regions.

Dr. Lodh had worked with numerous NGOs and social groups and was the founding member of 'The Hepatitis Foundation of Tripura.'

The second lady from the northeast to be awarded Nari Shakti Puraskar, Tage Rita Takhe is a well-known businesswoman from Ziro of Arunachal Pradesh.

Takhe is much recognized among entrepreneurs as the first kiwi wine brewer of India who introduced the first-ever organic kiwi wine in India named Naara Aaba located in the Ziro district.

For her big achievement in the sector of business, Takhe was earlier awarded Women's Transforming India Awards supported by the United Nations.

It may be mentioned that Nari Shakti Puraskar Awards is an initiative by the Ministry of Women and Child Development aiming to acknowledge the contribution of individuals and institutions in celebrating women as a catalyst of a change in society by bringing positivity.

On Monday 7 March, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had an interactive session with all the awardees of Nari Shakti Puraskar in Lok Kalyan Marg, New Delhi.
