ITANAGAR: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) has deferred its proposed 24-hour bandh after the State Government issued the notification to suspend all the Residential Proof Certificates (RPC) issued to Chakma-Hajongs.

Speaking to the media at the press club on Sunday, vice president of AAPSU, Nabam Gandhi informed that after a meeting with government representatives, AAPSU has demanded proper notification to suspend all the RPCs issued to the Chakma-Hajong and inclusion of AAPSU members in the fact-finding committee.

He further informed that on July 30, the state government had constituted a five-member committee led by Opak Gao, Secretary Food & Civil Supply as chairman, Director Border Affairs Hage Lailang as members, Under Secretary Home Likha Sampu as members, and two representatives from AAPSU has its members as demanded by the AAPSU. On more than 500 RPCs issued to the Chakma-Hajong, the AAPSU vice-president said the government had issued a notification to suspend all the RPCs. Moreover, the five-member committee will also submit its initial report within 15 days and the final report within 45 days.

"We haven't called off our protest but only suspended it. If the reports of the five-member committee is not on the proper track, AAPSU will continue its agitation," asserted Gandhi .

While responding to the query on voting rights of more than 4,000 Chakma-Hajong people, Nabam Gandhi said, "They are refugees and they cannot avail our rights."
