ITANAGAR: In a major breakthrough under the ongoing anti-drug drive 'Operation Dawn' 2.0, the police in Nirjuli and Papu Hills arrested three suspected drug peddlers and seized a total of 51.45 grams of suspected heroin in two separate operations conducted on Saturday.
The first operation, led by Naharlagun SDPO Rishi Longdo and a team from Nirjuli police station, was carried out during naka checking at Dikrong Colony.
Two suspects on a two-wheeler, identified as Almaz Ali (20), resident of Chirang district, and Ajaharul Islam (21), resident of Lakhimpur district, both from Assam, were intercepted.
Upon personal search, the police recovered 12 vials and one tobacco container containing suspected heroin weighing 30.42 grams, Naharlagun superintendent of police (SP) Mihin Gambo informed in a statement here on Sunday.
In a parallel operation, Papu Hills Police received intelligence regarding drug-related activity near the Railway Station in Tarajuli.
A swift operation led by Inspector Torum Mai and his team resulted in the arrest of Roshidul Hoque (27), originally from North Lakhimpur in Assam, and currently residing at Niti Colony, Yupia-II.
During the search, five vials of suspected heroin were found on his person. On interrogation, Hoque revealed the location of a hidden stash in Yupia-II, from where police recovered an additional 11 vials. The total contraband seized in this operation amounted to 21.03 grams, the SP said.
Two separate cases have been registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at Nirjuli and Papu Hills police stations respectively.
