Itanagar: The Arunachal Institute of Tribal Studies (AITS) at Rajiv Gandhi University (RGU) here, in collaboration with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), successfully conducted a one-day leadership engagement workshop to kick start the second phase of its multi-state implementation research project titled ‘Suicide Risk Reduction and Improving Mental Well-being among School and College Students’.
The second phase of the project focuses on implementation across over 60 educational institutions in the Itanagar Capital Region (ICR) and Papum Pare district.
The workshop held on Saturday, brought together principals and representatives from 10 institutions, including Zion Institute of Nursing, Arunodaya University, and JNV Gumto, among others. It aimed to enhance the capacity of institutional leaders in promoting mental health awareness and developing support systems within their campuses.
Dr Tarun Mene, Principal Investigator of the ICMR-AITS project, outlined the objectives of the initiative, stressing the urgency of addressing suicide risk and improving the emotional well-being of students.
Co-principal investigator Dr Dharmeshwari Lourembam also felicitated the attending dignitaries.
The workshop featured three technical sessions. The first, “Understanding Mental Health and Well-being,” co-facilitated by Dr Leeyir Ete and Chara Lowangcha, introduced key concepts for identifying and addressing mental health concerns in educational contexts.
