TAWANG: A massive wildfire broke out this morning along the Tawang Chu River belt in Arunachal Pradesh's Tawang district, endangering Sagkyur village and surrounding areas.
The fire, which erupted between 10:00 and 10:30 AM, rapidly spread due to strong winds and dry conditions, posing a grave threat to life and property.
The fire was controlled near the village and its residential areas, thanks to the quick action of the Lungla administration assisted by SSB, Indian Army personnel, local police, and residents. It avoided a probable loss of lives and lessened the property damage.
Even as the immediate danger to Sagkyur village seems to have passed, the inferno continues raging in the jungles surrounding the village. Heavy terrain has foiled efforts for a complete put out, while authorities remain alert to prevent the spread of flames beyond containment lines.
Incharge Additional Deputy Commissioner Ama Nungnu Mara and District Disaster Management Officer Genden Tsomu are leading coordination efforts on-site. The administration has urged the residents to be vigilant and promptly report any development or flare-up to the authorities.
The wildfire is a bitter reminder of the increasing dangers of dry spells and strong winds that characterize environmental conditions. Effective response from the community as a unit, shows the significance of teamwork and prompt action to combat the adverse forces of the natural element.
The local officials are doing their best to ensure that residents are safe, while also being on high alert to address the threat that continues to prevail. All agencies remain vigilant as efforts to fully contain the blaze continue.
