Arunachal: Milky Mushroom Training Begins at CAU Pasighat

A five-day training on milky mushroom production technology started at CAU Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, organized under ICAR–Directorate of Mushroom Research, Solan.

ITANAGAR: A five-day training programme on the production technology of milky mushroom commenced on Monday at the College of Horticulture and Forestry (CHF), Central Agricultural University (CAU), Pasighat in East Siang district of Arunachal Pradesh, under the aegis of ICAR–Directorate of Mushroom Research, Solan in Himachal Pradesh.

The training, which will end on June 27, aims to equip farmers, rural youth, and school dropouts with scientific knowledge on mushroom cultivation, particularly suited to the climatic conditions of Arunachal Pradesh.

In his keynote speech, vice chancellor of CAU Imphal Prof S N Puri, former, highlighted the importance of mushroom cultivation as a tool for nutritional security and economic upliftment, especially in the Himalayan regions.

He urged the exploration of local mushroom species for both consumption and genetic resource development and assured continued technical support to the participants for spawn production and value addition of oyster mushrooms.

In-charge dean Prof P Debnath, spoke on the significance of spawn production and the utility of vermicomposting after mushroom cultivation. Principal investigator Dr R C Shakywar, introduced the objectives of the training and emphasised that milky mushroom cultivation is a relatively new concept for the farming community of Arunachal Pradesh.
