ITANAGAR: Arunachal Pradesh Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry & Veterinary, Dairy Development, and Fishery minister Gabriel D Wangsu has emphasized the importance of sustainable agricultural practices in the north-eastern states.

Speaking at the two-day workshop of the All India Coordinated Research Project on Ergonomics and Safety in Agriculture and Allied Sector (AICRP on ESAAS), which began at the North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology (NERIST) near here on Tuesday, the minister highlighted the role of technological advancements in improving farming efficiency.

NERIST director Narendranath S stressed the significance of interdisciplinary research in agricultural engineering during the workshop, which was chaired by S. N. Jha, deputy director general (Agricultural Engineering) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), New Delhi.

Jha spoke about the impact of agricultural engineering research on enhancing farming systems.

The event featured insights from experts, including K K Singh, former assistant director general (Farm Engineering) at ICAR, New Delhi, and P K Nag, former director of the National Institute of Occupational Health, Ahmedabad, who discussed engineering solutions for agricultural sustainability.

Project Coordinator of AICRP on ESAAS Bhopal Sukhbir Singh presented an overview of the project, detailing its objectives, ongoing research, and progress. Principal investigator of AICRP on ESAAS, NERIST centre, K N Dewangan, highlighted the instituted contributions to the project.

The workshop witnessed participation from approximately 300 attendees, including faculty, researchers, scientists, and students from NERIST.
