POMA: Arunachal Pradesh's Minister for Environment and Forest Mama Natung has appealed the PRI leaders, youth, NGOs and all stakeholders to join hands with the initiative of the Government in protecting flora and fauna and other natural resources.

Addressing an airgun/gun surrender programme and environmental awareness campaign at the Poma general ground here on Saturday, Natung said every single initiative by the State Government is for the better and healthy future of the people.

He appealed to all to join hands in preventing global warming for the survival of human life by participating in conservation of flora and fauna and also creating awareness.

Overwhelmed over the surrender of seven airguns, 1 SBBL gun, a chainsaw machine, fishing nets, fishing arrows, other hunting materials and fishing equipments, Natung said that the campaign which had a humble beginning in the State is now appreciated by various State Government of the country, including the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

He said that the campaign could only be successful by the effort and support of the people.

"More than 1,600 people has surrendered their airguns, guns and even people having lethal weapons like .22 and DBBL are coming forward, which is a sign of great achievement for all of us," he added.

Natung also emphasized on the importance of co-existence between humans and nature.

"It is the responsibility of every citizen and not only for the people of villages to work for preservation and protection of forest and natural resources," Natung said.

Responding to a memorandum submitted by the youths' welfare society of the village, Natung assured to provide a scheme for an eco-park for the children to lure tourism into the area and asked them to identity a place for the park.

The Minister lauded the youths of Rillo-Poma panchayat for taking a lead in the field of protection of environment and forest.

Meanwhile, advisor to the Minister, Kumsi Sidisaw said that whatever the State Government is doing is for everyone and not for any individual.

He said that everyone will have to work hard so that the name and fame of the State remain the same.

Principal chief conservator of forests (PCCF) RK Singh, DCF Harshavardhan, Tana Tapi, Wildlife board member Suraj Tayum, PRI leaders, youth leaders, NGOs leaders, gaon burahs and the general public were present on the occasion.

Later, rules and regulations to protect wildlife of Poma panchayat were unveiled.
