Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Police recently arrested four persons including a minor and fined Rs 27,000 for violating various provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988 at Aalo in West Siang district.
Police have arrested four persons for riding on a gearless scooter including a minor boy, Senior Superintendent of Police Tumme Amo said on Tuesday.
He said when he was returning from an official visit from Sisi Likar village, he met four young boys namely Mantu Kumar, Ketan Kumar, Amjad Ansari and a minor boy riding a gearless scooter. The SSP said he immediately stopped them and directed the IC Traffic and Aalo police station officer-in-charge to take action as per law.
The violators were imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 for offences by juveniles under Sections 199 (A), he said. He said the violators were also imposed penalties of Rs 2,000 for carrying more than one person and for riding without helmet under MV Act.
“We have intensified MV checking since November 2024 as many minors have been arrested for driving without license,” Amo said, appealing to the general public to follow traffic rules. On December 3 last, a minor was fined Rs 25,000 for driving without license by the traffic police.
The SSP said that the MV checking will be intensified in the coming days and police will take strict action for haphazard parking. Around Rs 5-6 lakhs have been collected within a month as fines from violators, he said. Expressing concern over haphazard parking along the 4-lane highway, which causes inconvenience to others along the main thoroughfare from Sipu Bridge point to Hissam, Amo said they are planning to impound vehicles parked haphazardly.
