Border Roads Organisation ADG Visits Project Vartak Sites

TEZPUR: Border Roads Organisation is playing an important role towards development of infrastructure in the Northeastern States of our country and improving connectivity in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, which is crucial for the socio-economic uplift of the region.

Project Vartak has been instrumental in achieving connectivity in remote areas of western Arunachal Pradesh. Additional Director General of Border Roads (ADGBR) East, PKH Singh, VSM visited Project Vartak from March 25 to March 27 to review the progress of strategic works which are at a critical stage of completion.

Singh inspected all major bridges under construction on Orang-Kalakthang-Shergaon-Rupa-Tenga (OKSRT) and Balipara-Chariduar-Tawang (BCT) road. The ADG appreciated the efforts to complete the retro-fitting works of Sukha Nullah bridge on OKSRT road in a time-bound manner. He also stated that the connectivity to Tawang through OKSRT and BCT roads has definitely seen unprecedented improvement in the last few years. During the visit, the ADG emphasized the judicious use of resources and timely completion of works while maintaining the quality as per the laid down norms and standards. He conveyed that there is an urgent need to upgrade and adopt better technologies and materials in the work undertaken by the BRO to keep the pace with modernization to ensure timely completion of strategic road infrastructure in the border areas of Arunachal Pradesh. Further, he emphasized that there is a need to maintain the assets created by utilizing the allocated maintenance funds optimally. It was highlighted to the ADG that all works on Balipara-Charduar-Tawang road are progressing well and will be completed by June, 2022.

The ADG also carried out the assessment of ongoing works of Sela and Nechiphu tunnel being constructed on Balipara-Chariduar-Tawang road of Arunachal Pradesh. These tunnels will ensure round-the-clock connectivity to the strategically important Tawang sector and will boost the economy and tourism in the West Kameng and Tawang districts. The ADG appreciated the tough work being done by the Karamyogis of Project Vartak in maintaining work progress in spite of unprecedented snowfall in the region this year. He insisted upon completion of the projects at the earliest to ensure that these strategically important projects are ready for dedication to the nation as per the specified time lines.

The ADG also visited HQ Project Vartak at Tezpur on Sunday, where he was briefed by Brig Harish Kumar, Chief Engineer Project, on all major works being taken up in the States of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. He also discussed the planning of works for execution for next Financial Year, i.e. 2022-23. Singh expressed his satisfaction at the excellent progress carried out by Project Vartak and congratulated Chief Engineer Project in spearheading an infrastructural revolution in the region through state-of-the-art roads, bridges and tunnels.
