Event held on road safety awareness in Pasighat

PASIGHAT: As part of the Road Safety Week observation in East Siang, the general public, vehicle drivers and other road users were sensitized on Monday regarding the importance of road safety measures at 2-Mile area on NH-515 here, which has a high traffic density.

The special drive on NH-515 was organized jointly by the District Road Safety Committee under the Chairmanship of East Siang Deputy Commissioner and All Arunachal Pradesh Public Transport Federation (AAPPTF), East Siang Unit on the theme of 'Sadak Suraksha, Jeevan Suraksha'.

The Pasighat Police Traffic Cell, District Transport Office, Pasighat Highway Division, along with AAPTF volunteers, were the key stakeholders engaged in the road safety awareness drive.

ASP, Token Saring , District Transport Officer (DTO), Marik Loyi, OC of Pasighat PS, Otu Gao, president of AAPPTF-East Siang unit Tabiram Moyong, Highways officials B Sutar and J Nyodu, also advised following road safety measures such as avoiding over speeding, wearing of helmets and seat belts, avoiding alcohol consumption and keeping phones off and not mixing drinking and driving, wrong side parking, overloading etc. They said that negligent driving can cause preventable road accidents and hence all must abide traffic rules to save precious lives.

During the event, volunteers sensitized the public on traffic rules, distributed road safety pamphlets, pasted retro reflective taps on the rear of commercial vehicles for night illumination etc. An eye che ck-up camp for drivers and road safety awareness for schoolchildren will be the other highlights of the week-long Road Safety Week drive under the Swachhta Pakhwada from January 11 to January17.
