Itanagar: A specialised bomb disposal team from the Indian Air Force (IAF) successfully diffused two unexploded bombs in Rigyu village under Dollungmukh circle of Arunachal Pradesh’s Kamle district, bringing much-needed relief to the local residents, a senior official said on Friday.

The live bombs were discovered on May 26 this year, lying dormant just a few kilometres from the IAF’s Dolum Firing Range, he said.

Upon the discovery, the Dollungmukh administration swiftly cordoned off the area to ensure public safety and alerted the concerned defence authorities, Dollungmukh Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Nabam Tarang said.

On Thursday, a dedicated team from the IAF arrived at the site and executed a controlled disposal operation, following all standard safety protocols.

The delicate task was conducted under the direct supervision of the SDO, with critical support from the personnel of Dollungmukh Police Station.

According to Tarang, the unexploded ordnance posed a serious risk to nearby civilian settlements, and prompt coordination between civil and defence agencies ensured that the danger was neutralised without incident.

“We followed all safety guidelines during the disposal. The situation has been handled with utmost care and efficiency,” the SDO said.

Though IAF officials were unavailable for comment, the incident has reignited long-standing concerns among locals about the proximity of the Dolum Firing Range to residential areas. Residents of Dollungmukh and adjoining villages have, for years, urged authorities to consider relocating the range, citing repeated apprehensions over threats to life and property.
