ITANAGAR: JDU (Janat Dal United) legislator Techi Kaso along with Highway officials and work executing agency inspected the ongoing construction site of underpass road at Bank Tinali here on Tuesday.

Speaking to the reporters, Kaso said that there are some sections of people who don't want Itanagar to be developed as a Smart City. He said that the Central government has sanctioned around Rs 100 crore in the first phase of the Smart City project and the fund has been kept in the State exchequer for the last two years.

Moreover, around 27 km CC pavement roads were also sanctioned in the first phase and contractors have also completed many projects but the payment is yet to be released due to which many projects are still pending, Kaso added.

When asked about the construction of nine pending suspension bridges in the capital region, Kaso said that since last two years he has been writing to the State government but there is no positive response to it yet.

"I have even submitted a letter to the concerned RWD Minister and planning department. Surprisingly, no positive response has been seen yet. As of now, I am using the MLA-LAD fund for the maintenance of the bridges which is not sufficient," he said. He said, being the local MLA it's his duty to appraise the grievances of the public to the government but sanctioning of the fund is totally dependent upon the ruling government.
