Itanagar: Former Lok Sabha MP Takam Sanjoy Wednesday criticised the BJP-led governments at both the centre and the state for allowing the Film and Television Institute, Arunachal Pradesh (FTI-AP), to descend into a state of utter neglect.
Speaking out on the ongoing indefinite academic strike by students since May 15, Sanjoy, the former MP from Arunachal West Parliamentary Constituency, said the current situation reflects a ‘complete administrative failure and broken governance’.
“The BJP keeps chanting ‘Congress Mukt Bharat’ while blowing its own trumpet, but ground realities like FTI-AP expose the hollowness of their claims,” Sanjoy said.
This institute, envisioned and initiated under the Congress government, was supposed to be a creative hub for aspiring filmmakers, actors, and content creators from the Northeast. Today, it lies in a mess of unfulfilled promises and apathy, he pointed out.
Sanjoy expressed deep concern over the fact that students have been forced to go on strike due to the lack of even the most basic amenities.
“Clean drinking water, uninterrupted electricity, security, classrooms, digital access, a functional theatre, and post-production facilities, none of these are in place,” he said and added that the students are even falling sick due to the poor conditions, yet no action has been taken despite repeated representations and written assurances since March this year.
The former state IPR minister further revealed that the institute still lacks a logo, a website, a full-time on-campus director, and basic administrative functions.
