Pasighat: In a major crackdown under Operation Dawn 2.0, East Siang Police in Arunachal Pradesh, on Friday apprehended a habitual drug peddler and seized 2.46 grams of suspected heroin, Rs 3,000 in cash, and a smartphone from his possession, police said.
The arrest and seizure were made in strict compliance with the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, East Siang superintendent of police Pankaj Lamba said.
The accused, identified as Shri Obang Modi (60), a resident of the GTC Area in Pasighat, was caught red-handed during a planned operation led by deputy superintendent of police Ayup Boko, who is also in charge of the anti-drug squad (ADS) of the district.
Modi is known to be a regular offender in drug peddling.
Acting on credible intelligence inputs, the ADS team, comprising SI K Tangha, ASI R Lowang, and constables R Rukbo, B Tamut, and R Lego, executed the operation and apprehended the accused.
The recovery was made during a body search in the presence of an executive magistrate and independent witnesses. The entire process was documented through video and photographs using the e-Sakshya App.
The accused and the seized items were taken to Pasighat Police Station, where a case, under the NDPS Act has been registered. The investigation is currently ongoing.
