Dhekiajuli: The 14th Biennial General Session of the Assam Press Correspondents’ Union (APCU) concluded successfully at Loknayak Omeo Kumar Das College, Dhekiajuli, under Dhekiajuli Co-District on Sunday evening. The two-day event, held from January 18 to 19, witnessed enthusiastic participation from journalists and dignitaries across Assam.

The session commenced on January 18 with the inauguration of the main gate by reception committee president Prabodh Kumar Das.

APCU Central President Swapan Kumar Rabha Working President Mousam Jyoti Baishya and General Secretary Sarat Sensowa addressed the gathering, emphasizing key union demands. Rabha highlighted the pending issues conveyed to Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma via a memorandum. He expressed optimism that the upcoming budget session would address these concerns, warning of potential protest programs if they were ignored.  The second day began with a solemn remembrance ceremony for late APCU members led by Executive President Mousam Jyoti Baishya on Sunday morning.

The open meeting was presided over by Central President Swapan Kumar Rabha and inaugurated by Dr. Sukadev Adhikari, Principal of LOKD College Dhekiajuli, who served as the centrepiece of the event. Dr. Adhikari praised journalists for their dedication to reflecting societal realities and underscored the need to preserve the Assamese language.

Chief guest Hrishikesh Goswami, a noted litterateur, delivered a thought-provoking and inspirational speech during the 14th Biennial General Session of the Assam Press Correspondents’ Union (APCU) at Loknayak Omeo Kumar Das College on Sunday. His address captivated the audience by delving into profound spiritual aspects, leaving a lasting impact on all present. Goswami emphasized the transformative power of faith and conviction, urging individuals to nurture these qualities to lead a balanced and fulfilling life. His speech touched upon the human tendencies of jealousy and unrealistic expectations, offering insights on managing these emotions within the limits of reason and spirituality. “Faith and self-belief are the pillars that guide us in the face of challenges. When expectations cross limits, they lead to disappointment,” he remarked, urging the audience to seek harmony through introspection and spiritual discipline.

His words resonated deeply with the attendees, as he masterfully connected spiritual wisdom to everyday life. The audience lauded Goswami’s ability to address complex emotional struggles in a relatable and inspiring manner, making his speech a highlight of the event. The session not only celebrated the contributions of journalists but also provided a platform for meaningful discourse on personal and professional growth through spiritual principles. Goswami’s insights are expected to inspire many to reflect on their own lives and embrace a path of positivity and purpose.

Asomiya Pratidin sub-editor Swapna Bezboruah was honoured with the prestigious Kishore Kirat Award for her contributions to journalism. In her acceptance speech, Bezboruah shared insights from her career and urged the government to meet the longstanding demands of journalists in Assam. Additionally, Akan Saikia was felicitated for his significant contributions to the APCU, including donating land for the union’s central office in Guwahati.
