

GUWAHATI: In a grievous incident, around 25 persons sustained severe injuries after a bus in which they were travelling fell into deep gorge at Golakganj in Dhurbri district of Assam on Wednesday.
As per the police source, the incident took place at Gorerhat area.
Around 50 passengers were traveling in the bus which was enroute to Dhubri from Cooch Behar when it suddenly skidded off the road due a bike and fell into gorge.
Soon after the incident police personnel and local rushed to the spot and rescued them and shifted them to Halakura hospital in Dhubri for treatment.
As many as 643 accidents took place in the state during the five days of the Durga Puja celebrations that started on October 1. It is almost 100 cases more than the number of accident cases in the previous year, data issued by Mrityunjay 108 Emergency Ambulance Service said.
As per the data, The Kamrup district has registered the highest number of 75 accident cases, followed by Sonitpur with 53 cases, Nagaon with 46 cases, Udalguri with 40 cases, and Darrang with 33 cases.
On October 5, during the immersion of idols, the districts of Nagaon and Darrang recorded the highest number of road accidents with 15 registered cases, followed by Udalguri with 13 cases and Cachar district with 12 cases. Last year, the state registered a total of 541 road accidents during the Durga Puja festivity.
