7 market places in Karimganj put under lockdown by district admin

Guwahati: Amid a rapid surge in the number of coronavirus cases, the Karimganj district administration has announced new lockdown regulations on Saturday, July 4.

As per the new rules, a complete lockdown has been imposed in seven market places in the district: Fakir Bazaar, Nilaam Bazaar, Asami Ganj, Bhanga Bazaar, Patharkandi, and Anipurat. Apart from the municipality area, lockdown will be imposed in all the areas.

In a similar move, the administration of Gogamukh village under the Dhemaji district has decided to impose total lockdown, commencing from today onwards. This lockdown will come to an end on July 10, next. The Dhemaji district administration took this step to arrest the spread of the virus, which has continued to spread its tentacles in the nook and corners of Assam. At the same time, Dhemaji's administration has also been hit by the flood whammy, as the Upper Assam district is one of the worst affected in the second spate of floods in the state.

In Assam, the COVID-19 tally is nearing the 10,000 case mark. As per the state Government's records, 9,799 cases have been reported so far in the state, out f which 3,455 cases are active. 14 people have succumbed to death following virus complications.
