75th death anniversary of Gopinath Bordoloi observed as Lok Kalyan Divas across Assam

DIBRUGARH: The 75th death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, the first Chief Minister of Assam, was observed in Dibrugarh district on Tuesday as Lok Kalyan Divas.

The event was attended by Prasanta Phukan, Minister of Energy, Skill Development, Employment, Entrepreneurship, Health Education and Research, Government of Assam as the chief guest. The programme began with a lantern lighting ceremony and flower arrangement at the portrait of Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi.

State Power Minister Prasanta Phukan paid tribute to the contribution of Gopinath Bordoloi and said that his ideals and thoughts were inspiring for the present society and exemplary for every person and the younger generation in the state.

He said that the Government of Assam’s initiative to reward efficient, loyal and honest officers and employees with Public Service Awards will encourage other employees to perform their duties with loyalty and honesty. The minister also urged every government employee to welcome innovation and adapt to the changed work culture and serve the people with honesty and sincerity.

The programme was attended by Dr Keshabananda Haloi, Assistant Professor of Hanumanbox Surajmal Kanoi Commerce College, Dibrugarh as the keynote speaker. He detailed the contribution of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi to the Indian Independence Movement and also highlighted the political wisdom of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi.  He also highlighted how changes have been initiated in the administration as well as in every department and workplace. The meeting was chaired by Dibrugarh District Cultural Development Officer Sudarshan Bora, Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation Mayor Dr Saikat Patra, Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad Bipul Kumar Das, Election Officer Pranjil Gogoi, Assistant Commissioner Juri Doley, and other dignitaries.

Dibrugarh District Commissioner Bikram Kairi was presented Chief Minister’s Karmashree Award in recognition of his outstanding service in public administration, particularly for spearheading the successful implementation of the Rapid Aadhaar Enrolment Drive.

Joining him in this recognition were Sultana Akhtara, Additional District Commissioner (Aadhaar), Dibrugarh, and Ananya Chowdhury, Co-District Commissioner and Branch Officer (Aadhaar), Dibrugarh. Both officials also received the Karmashree Award 2025 for their pivotal roles in accelerating Aadhaar enrolment in the district.

BISWANATH CHARIALI: The Biswanath District Administration also observed ‘Lok Kalyan Divas’ on the auspicious death anniversary of Gopinath Bordoloi, commemorating the great leader with a brief programme. The event was inaugurated by District Commissioner Simanta Kumar Das with the lighting of a lamp in front of the portrait of Gopinath Bordoloi and offering floral tributes held at the conference hall of the office of the District Commissioner.

In the event, District Commissioner Simanta Kumar Das called upon everyone to move forward, inspired by the works and the life of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi, the first Assamese leader to receive the Bharat Ratna honour. In his speech, the District Commissioner mentioned that it was due to Gopinath Bordoloi’s strong protest against the division of the country based on religion that Assam was saved from being included with then East Pakistan.  Additional District Commissioner Asim Borgohain and other officials were present in the programme conducted by Ranjit Saikia from Jana Sanjog.

MANGALDAI: Synchronizing with the statewide celebration of the ‘Lok Kalyan Divas’ to mark the 75th death anniversary of eminent Freedom Fighter and the first Chief Minister of Assam Loka Priya Gopi Nath Bordoloi on August 5, the Assam Government conferred ‘District-Level Lok Sewa Puraskar 2025’ to 59 non-gazetted employees of the state for their outstanding public service. Among the recipients are Tilak Chandra Deka, a Senior District Administrative Assistant of District Commissioner’s office, Darrang, and Jyoti Prasad Nath, a Junior Assistant of Darrang Zilla Parishad, who have etched their names in the list of selected employees for their sincere and outstanding service.

In the official celebration of the “Lok Kalyan Divas” at the conference hall of DC’s office on Tuesday, Legislator Basanta Das accompanied by Additional District Commissioner Ajit Kalita and State BJP’s Women Wing President Nilima Devi conferred the award on Tilak Chandra Deka and Jyoti Prasad Nath.
